Attractions:

Long Lake is one of the top five cleanest lakes in Michigan. It is a clear natural spring fed lake which often takes on a turquoise blue hue making visitor feel like they are in the Caribbean. Long Lake is home to loons, blue herons and an occasional bald eagle. Fish inhabiting the lake include trout, blue gill, walleye, perch and small and large mouth bass. The following website has an interactive lake map and fishing information:http://www.fishweb.com/maps/montmorency/longlake/index.html

Golfers will be greatly impressed with the quality of local golf courses. Two premiere courses include Thunder Bay Golf Resort just 10 minutes away and Elk Ridge Golf Course 15 minutes from the cottage. Another popular and renowned course is Black Lake which is 50 minutes to the north of us. Golfers can play a different course each day and never drive over 50 minutes.

The Thunder Bay Golf Resort is also home to a large elk herd. Elk can be observed during all seasons. During the winter months patrons can go on horse drawn elk viewing sleigh rides to a cabin in the woods for a fantastic dinner.

The historical town of Alpena is only 40 minutes away. Visitors can attend one of many summer festivals, walk around the harbor and marina or visit the National Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

Other attractions include Ocqueoc Falls which is the Lower Peninsula's only waterfall. Those who want a broader fishing experience might like the well-known Fletcher's Floodwaters or Hubbard Lake.

Sports enthusiast will also enjoy snowmobiling on state trails in the area. The state trails are only 3 miles away and accessible. The state trail network connects to all of Lower Michigan. Ice fishing is another popular winter activity on the lake.

A Final Word:

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation then this is the spot for you! Our cottage feels like a little slice of paradise and is just what you need to unwind and recharge.

About Art/Cathy Black

We purchased another cottage on the other side of the lake 13 years ago. Our family of 5 fell in love with the lake and area. We have so many wonderful memories of great family time which includes campfires, hikes, water sports, and winter activities. As our children grew older we found we weren't using our cottage as much and we began sharing it with friends and family. There was such an interest that we recently purchased this cute cottage and remodeled it. Now we are sharing our place with others!

Aug 14-21, 2016 Dear Black Family, This cottage certainly is a slice of heaven! We had everything we needed to enjoy some family fun. We have four children, ages 6,8,12 and 14. It was so great that they could all find something to do that they enjoyed! The kayaks were a hit and great for all ages. The rowboat was used twice a day by my hubby and fisher boy who was in heaven fishing! And we also loved just sitting on the deck or by the shore as the kids swam or played in the sand. We had a fire every night and loved watching and listening to the loons and woodpeckers. Most of all, just loved the sheer beauty of the lake and trees. It is so peaceful here. Thank you for a great week away from it all! I will think of this place with fond memories many times throughout the year! We also went to Charley O's (wow! so surprisingly good! We loved it!) and found the elk on Camer Road. These were great recommendations! Many thanks with much appreciation. The C. Family

Art and Cathy, We had a wonderful time staying at your cottage. We spent most of our time outside by the water. We enjoyed using the kayaks to get around the lake. We went to the island to swim and look for loons. (We finally saw 2!). We also saw the woodpeckers, hawks, a hummingbird and a skunk! Very cool! At night time we sat by the fire, roasting marshmallows. During the stay we went to the Ocqueoc Falls, (must see!) which was very beautiful. We also took a day and went to Mackinaw Island. This is our second year coming to this lake and will not be our last! Thank you for sharing this cottage with our family. The W. Family :)

Sept 4-9, 2016 Art and Cathy, What a slice of heaven. We spent the first few days enjoying your beautiful deck! Using the kayaks to take in the beauty of the lake and roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. We also enjoyed the woodpeckers and grey and black squirrels. WE took a drive to Alpena for some fish and chips. Our babies enjoyed dipping their toes in the lake. The fresh air wore everyone out! The last couple of nights were a little wet so we watched movies and grabbed pizza from the pizza place in Hillman. The cheesy pizza and garlic bread were really yummy! Enjoyed cooking breakfast in your clean kitchen. Overall had a great time! The M. Family

Oct 1-5, 2016 Art and Cathy, Thank you for sharing your beautiful lake home with us! The views are simply amazing. "Soothing to the soul". The kayaks and row boat were used often. We have never been on such a clear, pristine lake before. Your home provided everything we could need and was a very cozy setting. The beautiful setting and home make it difficult to leave! Kayaking, shared meals, games, DVD's, relaxing on the perfect deck all created a wonderful vacation for our whole family. Looking forward to another vacation in the near future. The K. Family

Oct 6-9, 2016 Art and Cathy, Thank you for sharing your cottage with us! We were reluctant to rent this cottage because your other cottage is so beautiful we didn't want to be disappointed; NOT disappointed at all! This cottage is just as nice!! Different views of the latke, etc. The weather was a bit colder than expected so kayaking was out, but more time for golf!!! :) Thanks again, see you next year.

We stayed in late August 2016 with our two young daughters--5 & 2. Excellent week! Comfortable, serene surroundings. Pleasant neighbors. Gorgeous sunsets and starlit nights. Clean, crystal-clear water. Took a leisurely, mid-week day trip up to Mackinaw City. Cathy & Art: you did so well to anticipate our needs for our stay in your cottage. Thank you! Well, save for one one future add-on worth considering: bedside tables for the main bdrm. My wife & I made do with dining room chairs! An exceedingly minor criticism. Frankly, that is the only negative I could muster up. Such a wonderful cottage! My wife, children, & I got to know one another better. We couldn't ask for anything more!

We stayed at the home the week of 4th of July. The house was inviting and pleasant and clean and felt so comfortable and homey. We enjoyed the deck and yard as much as the house. The lake is incredibly clear and clean and a beautiful. Really enjoyed our stay there, what a pleasant family memory for us. Thank you!

This is the perfect family get away location if you truly want to spend quality time together playing games, enjoying camp fires, and messing around in the water! Cathy's cottage is immaculately maintained and very comfortable. Words can not do justice in explaining the beauty of Long Lake. The location of the cottage affords a sunset view beyond compare. We plan to come every summer until our kids are off to university.

This was our third visit to the cabin on Long Lake. It was amazing! The cabin is bright, clean and cozy. The deck is perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee, reading and taking in the wonderful lake views. The kitchen has everything we needed for the week. We all enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, water skiing and tubing. We also had fun around the fire pit inventing new kinds of s'mores! The lake is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. It is the perfect place to unplug from our daily lives and reconnect with each other. We were so sad to leave. Already looking forward to next year's visit!

Art and Cathy, When we arrived the cottage was spotless and loaded with many extra amenities. It was awesome to see not only the firepit, but the wood as well. Inside the decor is great. We love the big clock. The deck is amazing! We spent many hours on it and really like the bench seating. The cottage is wonderful and the lake beautiful! The week ended too soon. We would like to return in the future. It was a very quiet and relaxing time. Dennis and Jodi

July 20- July 27 2013 Dear Art and Cathy, We had a wonderful time at your cabin. We loved listening to the loons and watching them swim with their families. We also enjoyed fishing and tubing on our boat. We caught some big fish, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, sunfish and bluegill. Our youngest daughter, 11 years old, caught a 17 1/2 inch largemouth bass on a jitterbug. WOW!!! Nearly every night was family game night and we also enjoyed a campfire or two. We have stayed at many cabins up north and this is definitley the most beautiful lake we have seen! Also, thanks for the very clean cabin and beautiful deck. David, Jody, Katherine and Abby

August 3 - August 10 2013 Dear Art and Cathy, What a great week away from all the hustle and bustle of it all! The cottage is so cute and we still can't get over how beautiful the lake is. We've had campfires and s'mores every night. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary on the 4th, so this has been a great time to be away. Our daughter (4 ) has loved making sand castles for her Barbie princess and has been in the water despite cooler temps! We loved seeing and hearing the loons and made a stop last night to see the elk- very cool. Thanks again for everything! Charles and Julie

Dear Art and Cathy, Our week at your Long Lake cottage was amazing! It was everything we imagined and more. The girls loved every minute we spent at our "new" house. We kayaked around the lake and to the island on several occasions to explore. Fishing was good and the whole family caught fish, including bluegills, rockbass, largemouth bass and smallhouse bass. The walleye were elusive but that will be a challenge for next time. The lake is spectacular and really helped keep us cool during the week of intense heat. We barbequed most nights and had campfires. Having the firewood was an added bonus knowing we didn't have to find it in the area. Ocqueoc Falls was a nice trip and we enjoyed swimming in the river. Hard to believe our week is already over...looking forward to making a return trip next year.
