The Rifle River Recreation Area is home to many outdoor activities. The wilderness setting is idea for those who like to hunt and trap. Ruffed grouse, ducks, geese, turkey, woodcock, rabbits, squirrel, raccoon, fox and deer may be hunted during their respective seasons. Beaver, otter, mink and muskrat are in abundance and may be trapped. Regulations may be obtained at the park headquarters.
If you are visiting the area with your family there is plenty to do with swimming, boat launches, playgrounds, metal detecting area, canoeing and more. There is also a picnic shelter available for larger groups on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to drop a fishing line from your canoe you can be sure to see Northern Pike, Bass, Bluegill and many more. Visiting in the fall or winter? No problem, this area provides hiking trails, cross-country skiing and open space for good 'ole snow angels.
Coho and Chinook salmon, along with lake, brown and rainbow trout provide excellent fishing on Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron
