MICHIGAN VACATION PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
North Shore Cottage is located only 3.5 miles from Calumet on the shores of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Calumet is 11 miles north of Houghton and Hancock.
Calumet is a central point in the Copper Country, home to the richest metal mine in the world, the Calumet and Hecla, closed in 1939.
This great housekeeping cottage is right on the shore of Lake Superior, offering a sandy beach with a firepit for campfires. North Shore Cottage is open year round. The cottage has 1 bedroom with 2 double beds and a rollaway couch in the living room. The kitchen has all the necessities plus extra amenities such as a microwave oven and modern coffeemaker. Just bring your clothes and food, everything else if furnished.
There is a trout stream running right alongside the cottage, you can fish from the cottage deck, then cook your fresh trout on the grill provided with the cottage.
North Shore Cottage is great for summer or winter vacations. During the summer, fish, swim, hunt agates on the private shoreline, visit the ghostly mining ruins, take the walking tours of historic Calumet and Laurium, sightsee in the area or bring your kayak and try out Lake Superior. You will pass the remains of Tamarack #5 mine as you approach the cottage on Tamarack Waterworks Road. The Tamarack Mine was the second richest copper mine in the area.
During the winter, snowmobile or cross country ski from your cottage. Swedetown Cross Country Ski Trails (map and info) are just south of Calumet. Downhill and cross country ski at Mt. Bohemia at Lac La Belle. Snowmobile rental nearby.
