MICHIGAN VACATION PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

FREE unlimited golfing (cart extra) on an 18-hole golf course carved from mature forests with numerous ponds and marshes is included in your daily, weekly or monthly Golf Chalet Rental at Thunder Bay Resort.  The course has a slope rating of 120 and above and five sets of tees to offer challenge and enjoyment to golfers of all abilities.  Monthly renters receive a membership card that provides discounted fees over a doze other golf courses in Northern Michigan.

The Resort's award winning “Elk Viewing, Gourmet Dinner and Wine Tasting” event is optional at extra cost.  The winter version on sleighs was named one of the “10 Best” sleigh rides in North America by USA Today. This "World Class" event is a must do on any visit to the resort.

Situated in the midst of majestic hardwoods, pines and clean air, the fully furnished Golf Chalet offers 1400 SF of living space on two levels with three bedrooms, two baths (first floor tub has whirlpool jets), fully stocked modern kitchen including a microwave oven, living room with gas fireplace, and a deck with table and chairs overlooking the golf course.   Bedroom 1 has queen and double bed, Bedroom 2 has queen bed, Bedroom 3 has a day bed (makes 2 single beds) and the living room sofa opens out to a queen size bed.  All linens are provided.  The dining table seats four with additional card tables and chairs available.  The fireplace has a gas log.

Central heat, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi in the Clubhouse, satellite television, telephone, washer/dryer, coffee maker, hair dryer, vacuum, alarm clock and outdoor gas grill are a few of the extras provided. Parking is next to the Chalet. 

Alpena Regional Airport is 15 miles to the east and offers turbo-prop services from Detroit. Shuttle service is available from the airport; however, it’s best if you have a car during your stay.  Detroit Metro Airport, a major Northwest Airlines/Delta hub and International Gateway is an easy four hour drive from the south.

The Clubhouse Grill is open every day, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and provides live entertainment several times a week. The food is good and the pricing s moderate.  The Friday night Fish Fry and Saturday night Country Ribs are local favorites. Groceries, fuel, ATM, banks, churches, and other services are available in Hillman, 5 minutes from the Resort.  Additional retail shopping, restaurants, cinemas and medical services are available in Alpena, 25 minutes away. 

 
For the fisherman, Fletcher Floodwaters and numerous nearby lakes and rivers offer northern pike, blue gill, large and smallmouth bass, perch and other pan fish.  Alpena is 22 miles away with easy access to fabulous walleye, salmon, steelhead and lake trout fishing in Lake Huron. Fly fishing for brook, brown and rainbow trout s available on nearby inland streams.

Nearby activities include The Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center headquarters for the only freshwater NOAA National Marine Sanctuary featuring scuba diving and snorkeling in Lake Huron to view the biggest concentration of freshwater shipwrecks in the world. Also popular are walking, bird watching, scenic drives, sightseeing, lighthouses, museums, antiquing, quilting and more, as well as,  winter sports.  Thunder Bay Resort is situated near 135,000 acres of public forest. 

The resort is open year round and rentals are available anytime except may be limited during Christmas week.  Come in the spring to experience the flowering trees, lilacs, morel mushrooms, strawberries and maple syrup; in the summer for golfing, and to enjoy many local festivals; in the fall for apples and the brilliant autumn foliage; in the winter for sparkling clean snow and cross country skiing and snowmobiling.  Golf is available from mid-April through October.

From Southern MI, Take I-75 to Exit 202 (Alger, M-33).   Take M-33 North through Rose City, Mio, Fairview and Comins. At Fairview, be sure to turn left at the blinker in town to stay on M-33. North of Comins M-33 joins M-32. Turn right onto M-32 and head East to Hillman ( ten miles). The resort is on M-32 just East of Hillman.

From South Western MI, Take M-131 North to Cadillac, Go East on M-55 to Houghton Lake. Then North on I75 to Exit 254 (Grayling), East on 72 to Mio, Go North on M-33. At Fairview, be sure to turn left at the blinker in town to stay on M-33. North of Comins M-33 joins M-32.Turn right onto M-32 and head East to Hillman just ten miles. The resort is on M-32 just East of Hillman.

From Northern MI, Take I-75 South to Exit 310 (Indian River), then take M-68 East to Onaway. At the light in Onaway, turn right and take M-33 South until it joins Atlanta. At the light in Atlanta, turn left and head East on M-32 to Hillman (16 Miles). The resort is on M-32 just East of Hillman.  

From South Central MI, Take US-27 North to Grayling, then East on M-72 to Mio. Go North on M-33. At Fairview, be sure to turn left at the blinker in town to stay on M-33. North of Comins M-33 joins M-32.Turn right onto M-32 and head East to Hillman (ten miles)
